Review: Kat Von D Mother of All Mini Lipstick Duo

Sharing is caring!

I cannot, for the life of me, finish a tube of lipstick. I have more than 30 lippies in my collection and some of them have been left untouched for months. I even got several glosses that I never use. It’s great that brands are coming out with mini lipsticks so lazy lasses like yours truly could try out different shades without the full commitment of finishing the entire tube.

As mentioned in a previous post, I bought a couple of items during Sephora’s site-wide sale, one of which is the Kat Von D Mother of All Mini Lipstick Duo. This wasn’t the first time I bought a mini lip duo from the brand but this specific item, I like better than the last. I guess I like this better because the shade, Mother, is more flattering to my skin tone. I’m getting ahead of myself though, let’s review:

What is it: Kat Von D Mother of All Mini Lipstick Duo

According to Kat Von D, the Kat Von D Mother of All Mini Lipstick Duo, the product features a dusty mauve pink that “works for everyone.” The shade comes in two of Kat’s “awesome lip formulas: Everlasting Liquid Lipstick and Studded Kiss Lipstick!”

Our long-wear, pigment-rich Studded Kiss Lipstick is formulated with Color Cushion Technology™ to keep your pout feeling comfy and velvety soft. Just swipe it across lips to lock in bold, badass color with unstoppable wear.

The lippies could be worn individually or layered together to extend their staying power.

Quality and Packaging

The packaging is okay, it’s not really worth writing home about. The lippies were packed in a cardboard box. The products themselves were wrapped by paper wrapping.

The liquid lipstick’s packaging is a slim plastic tube. It has a doe-foot applicator and the end is flattened a bit to disperse the product evenly on the lips. The lipstick tube, on the other hand, features Kat Von D’s distinct studded lipstick tube. The packaging doesn’t look cheap but they don’t look high end either.

The liquid lipstick has a thin consistency and the application is smooth. It is opaque in a single layer and layering is no problem at all. As it dries down, the liquid lipstick doesn’t feel like it’s sitting on the lips. It’s light and comfortable to wear.

Although the liquid lipstick has impressive staying power, the wear isn’t as lengthy as the other lippies I have from Kat Von D. I feel that this product faded on my lips fairly quickly especially after a meal. Superia, which is the ultraviolet lippy from another Kat Von D duo that I have in my collection, is so freakin’ hard to remove.  It won’t budge even when I used an oil-based makeup remover. This shade, however, I can remove it with a wipe of my fingers while eating. I was a bit disappointed.

The lipstick, on the other hand, isn’t as pigmented when swiped once. It has to be layered a couple of times for full opacity. I love the creaminess of the lipstick. It’s comfortable on the lips and isn’t drying at all.

Initially, I thought the staying power would be just as lackluster because it’s a traditional lipstick formula. But I was surprised, the staying power is phenomenal for a cream lipstick. Even when I ate a piece of fruit and drank plain water, the lippie stayed on.

Swatch Party!

I love this shade, it’s flattering as hell. It brightened my skin tone, as you can see and it blurs my ugleh lip lines!

Final Thoughts

I love this lip duo and I thought this was a great buy. Sure, the liquid lipstick cannot survive a meal but it will stay pristine for hours unless you eat something. The liquid lipstick does fade quickly but it doesn’t come off in patches, you know? The lipstick formula, on the other hand, is a revelation. The staying power is great for a traditional lipstick and the shade is deep and rich!
