Little White Pouch Review: My Experience Ordering from an Online Seller

October 17, 2018 by Tina Lee Leave a Comment

UPDATE: This review has been sitting in the draft section since March! I wrote this blog around the time I found out I got pregnant so let’s just say girlfriend’s got distracted big time.

My engagement ring, which is the most important ring I own, I no longer wear. And it’s not because I finally got tired of the design, far from it. I’m still in love with the 3-stone setting, the diamond and sapphire combo is TDF.

Back when the would-be hubs and I were designing the ring, I chose a delicate setting. I was warned by Cherry, the owner of Diamond Fire Manila, about it but I was too stubborn I guess. The ring made my fingers look extra slender, you see. Unfortunately, the setting is the kind that cannot tolerate everyday wear. I simply cannot enjoy the ring no thanks to the fragile setting.

I kept bonking the stone too. Throughout the short time that I wore the ring, the prongs that held the diamond started loosening. I was so paranoid that I’d lose the center stone so I kept the engagement ring in its box, hardly wearing it.

Initially, we wanted to tighten the prongs but in the end, we decided to have the e-ring re-set at some point. I’m still on the fence about it because I don’t really want to change the setting at all. I’m sentimental like that! We’re still figuring out where and when to get this done (my choice is Oro Gem at The Podium, check it out!) but in the meantime, I treated myself to a new ring by Little White Pouch.

I had such a great experience with Ms. Via of Fine Jewelry PH but I will use her for a different project.

Little White Pouch is an online jewelry store owned by Yani Monroy. I learned about this store after following a popular blogger on Instagram. Little White Pouch made the blogger’s engagement ring and wedding set. Since I was looking for another trusted jeweler, tapping an artisan who previously worked with a popular personality should work out great, right?

Little White Pouch: Ordering Online

I pinged Yani about the project on Instagram. I feel that she’s often on Insta than FB so I think this is the best way to get in touch with her. I just described the ring that I wanted and gave her a sample picture of the style that I had in mind. Basically, it’s my old e-ring design, lol

My instructions were simple. First, I wanted a robust setting so the ring is resilient enough for everyday wear. Also, I wanted zero spaces in between the stones. The prongs should be durable and thick but they shouldn’t affect the sparkle of the main stone in any way. Finally, I want a flush setting because I have several eternity rings and my plan was to wear the ring with an eternity band at all times.

After ironing out the details, I received an order form via email. The form outlined all the ring’s information including the price, banking details, payment method, etc. Ordering the ring was pretty straightforward although you have to get Yani’s attention to seal the deal. She’s busy I think so she cannot track all inquiries. I wired the initial payment using the BPI app so that was easy.

The agreed lead time was 1 month but there were slight delays, all for good reasons I suppose. The first delay has something to do with the ring’s minor flaw. According to Yani, the ring was done but black lines were forming on the metal so they must be polished off:

They had to do the polishing carefully because the problem could worsen if not done correctly. I like how much of a perfectionist Yani is, she wouldn’t send off a piece if it’s not 100% perfect in her eyes. Also, I appreciate the quick updates! Yes, there were delays but Yani was quick to respond and answer any question, which I appreciate since it’s my first time dealing with her.

I was set to meet her rep to claim the ring but Yani got sick and was not able to deliver the ring in time. In all honesty, I was thoroughly disappointed that Yani canceled the meeting because the appointment was one of the reasons why I drove all the way to the city. She was apologetic about it and explained why the meeting won’t push through. I understood her reasons so I just moved on. Granted, we had a lot of things going on during that time so it was easy to move on from my initial disappointment.

Since the ring needed more polishing, the delivery was delayed by two more days. That was okay because she had a good reason for it. My only regret is that I was not able to wear the ring during our Caramoan vacation. I was planning lengthy shoots with it, hahaha! Eventually, the ring was shipped via LBC.

The Product

Right, let’s get to the product finally! The ring was packed in a white pouch (hence the name of the store). The packaging is adorable, quite rustic. Inside is the ring, of course, and it’s gorgeous!

First off, the quality is amazing. The white gold was polished to a high shine and it has a nice heft to it. The ring is not heavy but it’s definitely not fragile either. Hindi tinipid ang ginto (she didn’t skimp on the gold). My mom was so impressed since we both knew gold is so expensive these days.

You cannot see it in these pics but the ring features claw-prongs, which was the perfect design to showcase the stones. I love the strong yet non-obstructive prongs, the ring is designed to take a beating with ease. I could wear the ring every day for the rest of my life without worrying about losing the stone!

I love the semi-high setting so an eternity ring could sit flush with the ring. I do mind the gap guys, and the slight space between my old e-ring and my eternity band drove me nuts!

As you can see, the ring sits flush with my thin eternity band, no gap. They look so perfect together! As for the dimension of the gems, the ring has a 1-carat center and .15 carat equivalent sapphire sides, these are my dream dimensions but we were trying to save up when the then-boyf purchased my e-ring.

The center stone, I believe, was handpicked by Yani’s supplier and it’s quite the firecracker. Instead of mod shots, I made this clip just so you can see the amazing quality of the center stone:

If there’s one design component that I’m not too pleased about, it’s the exposed part of the prongs inside the ring. The exposed bits gave the ring an undone appearance like the ring isn’t complete or something.

I get that they couldn’t fill this area in completely but I wish they removed more of the protruding metal (the base of the center prongs) and polished the insides so the bumps aren’t too noticeable.

Final Thoughts

I’m pretty much patting myself on the back for choosing Little White Pouch for designing and creating this lovely ring. The price is reasonable, the quality is impressive, and the durability of the ring is unquestionable. If you’re looking for high-quality fine jewelry, don’t go to the mall. Work with an artisan who’s committed to crafting the finest pieces of jewerly at reasonable prices. Little White Pouch is highly recommended!

Simone’s Closet: My Experience Buying from an Online Seller

October 16, 2018 by Tina Lee Leave a Comment

I finally did it, guys! I finally bought my first maternity dresses. Granted, I could still fit into my old clothes… or as I say, my uniform. But the hubs and I went on a babymoon and I needed dresses that’ll fit this aging, expanding shell.

My uniform, basically.

Thanks to my weak knees, I can no longer wander aimlessly at the mall like I used to. I have to do most of my shopping online. I’ve searched high and low for great sellers that offer billowy dresses and went with Simone’s Closet, an online store that specializes in boho dresses as well as fabric accessories for kids and women. The store is owned by fashion blogger Denise Lunod and she’s been in the business since 2010.

Simone’s Closet: Ordering Online

Ordering the dresses was a straightforward affair. I just took a picture of the style that I wanted, slid into Denise’s DMs and specified the shade that I wanted. The style that I wanted was a bit too long for my smol 5’1 frame so the dresses have to be customized. Thankfully, customization won’t cost you extra, the price is still the same.

I got the “Ruffles Pocket Dress” and the style comes in different shades, including salmon and cobalt blue. It was the first time that I’m dealing with this seller but I wasn’t too worried because the store seems to have a great following.

I filled out an order form, submitted the form, and then settled the bill via bank deposit. There was a bit of waiting time in between these steps because the person who was taking care of my order (who turned out to be Denise herself) seemed to be juggling a lot of things like most young entrepreneurs.

Getting the Dresses

I got the impression that the dresses were only made once a client orders them.  I could be wrong but that’s how I felt. This did not affect the swiftness of the delivery, however. I ordered the dresses on a Wednesday and received the package on a Tuesday, which I thought was pretty impressive considering that the dresses were made by order and customized. The pieces were not on hand.

The dresses were delivered via LBC, which was nice. I buy so many stuff online these days that our local LBC delivery dudes know my address by heart, hahaha!

As for the quality of the dresses, it was great. The stitching seems strong. The length of the dress is still a tad too long although the length was something that I expected, being a hobbit and all. The fit is great, it’s comfy and loose. I’m not used to wearing these kinds of dresses because they kinda make me feel fat but at this point, that’s basically my reality.

The jersey material is thicker than I expected. I suppose the airiness of the dress will help cool me off (I’m always feeling hot all the damn time!) but the material isn’t suitable for summer. At least, for me. If you prefer a thinner material, you need to check the dresses in person. I believe Simone’s Closet has a physical store in Ayala Mall’s the 30th. They also let the customers choose between thin or thick material but I didn’t know this before I ordered so I ended up with the thicker material.

I am considering having the dresses altered a bit, however. I wasn’t aware that these had a side slit, the slit wasn’t visible in pictures. My husband was teasing me about the slit because he thinks it’s too high. He’s such a prude, I know. Not that I hate the slit, mind you. I am careless when it comes to the way I sit, I sit like a man. I don’t want the slit to reveal this, hahahaha!

I wish the dresses were made with a lighter fabric but overall, these dresses are so nice. If there is one thing about this design that I think Simon’s Closet should improve on, it’s the diameter of the sleeves. I think they should be larger or at the least, made stretchier. I also noticed that the pocket stitching of the dresses was unfinished, 3 of the 4 dresses I got had tiny holes where the stitching ended. The stitching of the pockets should always be inspected after just to see if it was done all the way through.

Final Thoughts

Love the dresses by Simone’s Closet. The dresses were well made and I love the color selection. The design is flattering even with a growing belly. The pricing is great too, really affordable! The ordering process was quite straightforward, which is great for no-nonsense customers like yours truly.

Babymoon at Raffles Makati

October 3, 2018 by Tina Lee Leave a Comment

Since life will never be the same again in a couple of months, the hubs and I decided to go on a babymoon. The concept of babymooning isn’t popular here in the tropics as say, honeymooning. Essentially, a babymoon is the last getaway before the birth of a baby. Usually, the babymoon is held once the pregnancy reaches the second trimester. But since we were focusing our finances on getting the nursery ready, we decided to hold off the babymoon until the third trimester.

I’m heavily preggers (7 1/2 months) at this point and was not in the mood to travel to a remote beach. Well, I was not in the mood to travel throughout my pregnancy, to be honest. I was too paranoid. That’s why we decided on a staycation at a nice hotel. The pace is more relaxing and we could spend lots of quality time together before the baby comes.

There were loads of luxury hotels to choose from but we chose Raffles Makati for several reasons. First, it’s not your average hotel with 100+ rooms. Raffles offers a total of 32 suites, each elegantly designed suite provides the utmost comfort and luxury. I swear, our room is the swankiest we’ve been in. The package is quite pricey for what it is but our stay was inclusive of high teas in the afternoons and cocktails at night, apart from the breakfast buffet. Sounds good to me!

Before we checked in, I went shopping for bubble bath bombs and fizzies. I heard Raffles’ bathroom is massive and I wanted to take full advantage of the tub! I bought a total of four bubble baths bombs and fizzies but I forgot to take pics. I got an orange bubble bath one that smelled like fresh orange, another in lavender/floral mix, one with the glitter and honey, and another with a fresh ocean fragrance. I thought about reviewing each of these but something about being in the third trimester made me lazy as fuck. I will continue with the beauty reviews once this whole pregnancy thing blows over.

Who doesn’t love Lush’s stacks o’ soaps? And because a video is worth a million words, here’s a clip of our suite:

It’s overwhelming how massive the room was. To be quite honest, I was expecting a medium-sized room because we got the Junior suite. But this is by far the largest room we stayed in a luxury hotel. It was its own walk-in closet, which was set parallel to the bathroom.

I didn’t film the closet in full because it was quite messy with our stuff but above is a tiny portion of it! I requested a room with a view and Raffles Makati truly delivered:

The room was so huge, there were a total of 5 seating areas excluding the work desk. One is by the window, near the bed. This seating area puts the breathtaking cityscapes front and center.

The other is set farther from the bed, near the work desk (image below). Not pictured is the study, which is set near my husband’s bedside:

Another is a living room-esque seating area with its own TV. The mini bar is also hidden beside the sofa. Not pictured is the work desk, which was set opposite the bed, near the TV console table.

Incredibly, there is also a seating area at the foot of the bed so you can watch the TV comfortably. The TV was so far from our bed so I guess that’s what the lounging area is for. I didn’t take a picture of the bed BTW, the arrangement was ruined by the time I remembered to snap a pic, argh! But you can check out the clip for a quick glimpse of the bed!

Here’s the dining room, beside it, is the coffee maker.

Now behold, the bathroom:

It was so frackin’ huge! The toilet and the shower area are set away from the tub. The tub is set near the giant windows so you can see the gorgeous view while languishing in a fragrant bubble bath!

The marble sink (his and hers) dominated half of the bathroom but there’s ample room for the bath area. The toiletries and amenities were equally luxurious. The shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and soap came in FULL SIZE. We never experienced this from other hotels before.

For the bath essentials, a shower cap, loofah, and seemingly unlimited packs of bath salts were provided. There is also a pretty organizer set on the tub so you can read a book while taking a long soak! After checking in, we spent a huge chunk of our day enjoying the massive bed. The hubs was busy watching the game and I was busy enjoying the fast wifi.

Since we checked in late, we didn’t make it to the high tea. But we freshened up just in time for dinner. We had a dinner reservation at Spectrum, a resto buffet shared by Raffles and Fairmont guests. Here’s my first plate:

… and the second plate. Obviously, I was not able to eat a lot. We had lunch at Italiannis and was still full come dinner time, jujuju!

We also received a congratulatory cake. We said we were celebrating our babymoon and early anniversary:

The next day, we enjoyed the buffet breakfast. I loved the selection, it was better than the dinner buffet. We also made it to high tea!

Didn’t realize that they offer tons of munchies. We entertained my hubs’ relatives and ordered two high tea sets but we never finished any of the sets. Too many stuff but the quality of the treats was amazing! The high tea comes with free-flowing coffee, btw.

I made the “mistake” of ordering a cheese plate thinking that the treats won’t be enough for five peeps. Love the cheese selection and we ended up taking most of these home to munch on. So, yeah, not much of a mistake, after all!

After spending the rest of the day entertaining the oldies, the hubs and I finally had the night to ourselves. We had a reservation at Mamou, which was in Rockwell. Since we were still sorta full, we were not able to order all the other dishes that we wanted previously and limited our order to the Dry Aged USDA Prime Grade Bone-In Rib-Eye Steak (twin size for sharing) and the Lorenzo Truffle Cream Pasta. We also ordered the steak rice and creamed spinach to go with the steak.

Both dishes were divine. The pasta is rich, flavorful, and creamy while the steak, well, there’s just no words. I cannot articulate how good the steak was, the mouthfeel of the meat is springy yet soft. The flavor is robust and rich. It was perfectly cooked medium rare. We love our meat rare to medium rare, no medium well for these piglets.

I didn’t add any seasoning to the meat. No salt, no pepper or pepper flakes, nada. I never use steak sauce, even gravy. I prefer my steak lightly seasoned with whatever seasoning the chef added and that’s it. This steak was divine. Perfect in every way. My husband found the steak too rich though. Well, our entire meal was too rich with the truffle pasta, steak rice, and steak so he was a bit “nasuya” with the meat fat. But the steak, he loved it as well.

We spent the rest of the night swimming at the hotel pool. There are two pool areas at Raffles, one that’s exclusive to Raffles guests and another for Raffles and Fairmont guests. We went to the exclusive pool and it was wonderful, we had the place to ourselves!

We also used the gym to sweat all the guilt away. I didn’t take pictures because there were other peeps in the gym but even the gym was so nice. The equipment and machines were brand-spankin’ new and hi-tech. The view is so gorgeous. You’ll get lost in the nice view while working out. Lemon water, towels, and other niceties were provided for gym goers. After working out, we basically spent the rest of the day lounging around, taking long soaks and eating. It was amazing!

So yeah, that’s basically what went down during our babymoon. I felt so spoiled, Raffles Makati is something else, guys. The staff members are not only friendly and warm, they were efficient as hell too.

We love how the staff members put a personal touch on their service. We received a couple of these handwritten greetings, which we thought was so thoughtful. They really put more effort into making their guests feel right at home. We are planning to go back to Raffles Makati because we enjoyed our stay immensely! Perhaps next year to celebrate Damy’s arrival or on my birthday.
