I was in beautiful Cebu last weekend to unwind with the boyf and his office friends:
The boyf and I were shocked at how much time we spent traveling from point A to point B. For instance, getting to our resort took almost five hours of driving. From the resort, the nearest beach is about 8 kilometers away. We only got to spend 3 hours in the beach throughout the trip, which really bummed me out:
We barely had time to roam around too. But the boyf and I managed to sneak a few minutes to explore the Carcar market for famous Cebu lechon. For those who do not know, Cebu lechon is the best lechon in the world, at least according to Anthony Bourdain of No Reservations (and the rest of the PH).
Our helpful trike driver drove us to the market and gave us directions to the lechon market in the local dialect. It only took us two seconds to find the lechunan! Woot!
The best thing about this trip is the free taste. While the vendors chop our orders away, they give us generous slivers of lechon! Yum!
I am no expert on lechon because I don’t eat it all the time but the Cebu lechon is definitely saltier and more tender than all the lechons I tried in my life. Cebu lechon does not come with the usual liver sauce too. The vendors just collect the drippings and use that as a dip. Quite sinful, actually!
We also went to Magellan’s cross, which is the cross Ferdinand Magellan planted himself. It’s quite an iconic landmark here in the Philippines. I also sampled a local cake while we visited Magellan’s cross:
Not the most mind-blowing cake ever but I enjoyed it with black coffee.
